No man or woman is above the law. Not you, not me, not the Bidens, nor the Trumps. Pay attention to the facts of the case unfolding in the Manhattan DA’s office, not the distracting antics and show statements from fearful and craven politicians climbing and tripping over each other in their race to the bottom of Shame Mountain.
Not even a twice-impeached disgraced, and lying former President is above the law. And yes, everyone knows he’s a liar and a phony, his track record is there for all who want to see it.
It doesn’t matter if some people think this hush-money fraud situation is trivial. It’s not, however, because the law is the law and there is a larger principle at stake here as well. The charges against Donald Trump could involve violations of federal election law and felony charges based on the falsification of business records. Remember, Al Capone went to jail for tax evasion and not for extortion or murder charges, which he was also guilty of. So just like Capone, Trump who is facing even bigger charges in other cases from insurrection to directly attempting to meddle in the 2020 election in Georgia, may be convicted first for lesser but clear-cut violations of the law. He will get his day in court and we’ll see how the case is decided.
Again, no man is above the law. That principle also applies to the boogeyman, Hunter Biden, who the right wing has been losing their minds over. It’s almost funny that the GOP attack dogs who are barking so loudly about influence peddling with the Bidens never make a peep about it regarding Trump or his adult children who were trying to leverage their connections from day 1 all the way through till Jan 6, 2021. Classic hypocrisy, of course.
Well, guess what folks? There is a Dept. of Justice investigation that has been underway for months to look into accusations of any Biden wrongdoing. If Hunter has done anything illegal, he will have his day in court and he will be held accountable if convicted.
And for those who say, “why is Trump being indicted now?” Did you forget that he wasn’t charged while he was in the White House because a long-standing DOJ tradition was upheld of not charging or indicting a sitting President? While many feel he should have been charged the day he left the Presidency, the fact is the cases are complicated and it can sometimes take this long to bring these types of cases. When the case is finally brought, is just window dressing and not the heart of the matter. What really matters are the facts of the case, any case.
The crocodile tears claim that this is all politically motivated and weaponization of the legal system is by far the dumbest assertion of all. The claim is mostly being made by the cowardly House GOP leadership and other elected Republicans who are terrified of the Trump MAGA base and feel compelled to make baseless claims that completely ignore the details of what Trump is likely to be charged with. It’s all B.S. and a sideshow. It’s a juvenile and insulting claim to all Americans. Do you want to talk about politically motivated weaponization of the government? Come on give me a break. Did any of these crying, whining kiss-ups to Trump take any issue with AG William Barr’s weaponizing on behalf of Trump to go after his political enemies or step on the Mueller Report right before it was released to the public? Of course not. Trump’s White House was the most “weaponized” administration since Nixon. Spare me the righteous indignation.
And finally, the bogus proposition being pushed by MAGA World that Michael Cohen’s testimony can’t be trusted, is ridiculous. He plead guilty as part of a criminal conspiracy and spent time in jail for his role in the illegal hush money scheme directed by Trump himself. It’s farcical to think that Cohen would make a $130K payment to a porn star for no reason and Trump would reimburse the same amount to him, for no reason. The paper trail is there, plain as day. Furthermore, D.A.s and Grand Juries don’t just accept testimony from witnesses at face value. There has to be corroborating evidence to back it up. Trust me, Alvin Bragg, the Manhattan D.A. will be bringing a very tight package of testimony and evidence to back up the case. No question about it.
If the law has been broken then the rule of law must be upheld. To say that Trump should get a pass for breaking the law is to say that a two-tier legal system is ok in America. We all know that Trump has done worse things than to lie and make illegal payments to quiet an affair he had with a porn star while he was devotedly married to Melania. We all know that. It’s certainly no surprise that Trump has engaged in sleazy, shady behavior. He may, in time, also be held accountable for the more egregious offenses to our American democracy. One can only wait and hope. Regardless, if we are a nation of laws he should be held accountable to the justice system for these crimes, now. You and I would not get to avoid the courthouse in this case, what makes him so special?
